DigiCamps Are Back! Do You Know a Girl Who Should Be Learning to Code?

We’re so excited to announce that our DigiCamps are back for Summer 2025! These hands-on coding workshops teach girls aged 11–13 how to build video games from the ground up.

Led by expert instructors from UTG Academy, and sponsored by A Thinking Ape, the workshops are completely beginner-friendly. No experience needed!

Campers will have the opportunity to design a game using Python and PixelPAD, while learning the fundamentals of coding, custom-designing gameplay, and more. 🎮

Guest speakers from the industry will also drop in to share their experiences, tips and insights from working in game development.

It’s not just about learning a technical skill, though. It’s about unlocking creativity, building confidence and showing girls what’s possible with tech.

DigiCamp Summer 2023: Online Video Game Development Coding Camp for Girls

We wrapped up another successful run of DigiCamp: Online Coding for Girls, with four camps taking place and students getting to engage in a newly developed curriculum. This was taught in partnership with Under the GUI (UTG) Academy and supported by IUGO Mobile Entertainment.

2023 also marked the launch of the CodeForward Scholarship. Inspired by the desire of Catherine Winckler (Founder & CEO, MindfulGarden Digital Health) to support the participation of young girls in tech, her initiative sparked the creation of this program as a tool to further reduce barriers. Eight bright minds were selected to receive a coding education through DigiCamp as a result. We’d like to thank Catherine for her incredible contribution and support in making this idea come to fruition!

DigiCamp Spring Break 2022: Online Video Game Development Camp for Girls

The first DigiCamp: Online Game Development Camp for Girls was such a success that we decided to run it again over spring break this year. These camps were an even bigger success having sold out weeks in advance! We developed this program again in partnership with UTG Academy and had IUGO Mobile Entertainment on board as the sponsor.

DigiCamp Summer 2021: Online Video Game Development Camp for Girls

DigiBC’s DigiCamp was created to give youth in the province who have not had the opportunity, the chance to learn skills, build confidence and broaden interest in careers within the creative technology sector. We’re happy to report that the first-ever DigiCamp: Online Game Development Camp for Girls which took place in July and August was a success! We developed this in partnership with Under the GUI (UTG) Academy and had IUGO Mobile Entertainment on board as the sponsor. Huge thanks to both for helping turn this idea into a reality.

The camp was specifically designed for girls aged 9-13 years old and students got to create an HTML5 game using PixelPAD and the Python programming language. UTG Academy instructors (Lydia Assion-Nielsen, Mia Gieselmann & Linda Lee) tuned the curriculum to ensure students had the opportunity to create an app that was uniquely their own. The camp also featured IUGO guest speakers, Amie Hulme (Technical Director), Thais Campos (Quality Analyst) and Reina Magica (Game Designer), who shared their experiences, tips and secrets from working in the video game industry.
