Province of B.C. Renews the Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit at 25%

Today, the B.C. government made the Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit (IDMTC) permanent and increased it from 17.5% to 25% starting September 2025.

On March 4, the B.C. government made the Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit (IDMTC) permanent and increased it from 17.5% to 25% starting September 2025.

We’d like to extend our sincere thanks to B.C. Premier David Eby, Finance Minister Brenda Bailey, Jobs, Economic Development, and Innovation Minister Diana Gibson and Tourism, Arts, Culture, and Sport Minister Spencer Chandra Herbert for their continued confidence in our sector.

“Vancouver continues to be one of Canada’s core game development hubs and an important part of a vibrant B.C. tech sector. The renewed and increased IDMTC will not only foster job growth in existing companies but also attract new studios and talent, further cementing our province’s status as a leader in digital media innovation,” says DigiBC Board Chair Jeanne-Marie Owens.

This renewed show of support for game developers, educational software creators, and VR/AR innovators across the province will sustain thousands of industry jobs and support locally based companies in creating made-in-Canada IP.

DigiBC has long advocated for this essential tax credit, which has played a huge role in making B.C. a global leader in digital media entertainment. Over the years, the incentive has helped attract and retain top talent, and enabled the development of world-renowned games and digital experiences right here in B.C.

“The IDMTC remains vital to B.C.’s interactive digital media sector, and we commend Minister Bailey for strengthening support for companies like Electronic Arts that share the province’s tech and innovation goals,” says Natali Altshuler, COO of EA SPORTS Studios. “EA appreciates B.C.’s strong support and recognition of our role in driving economic growth as one of the province’s leading interactive entertainment companies.”

So many internationally renowned products and projects have benefitted from B.C.’s thriving digital media ecosystem. For example:

This increase is welcome news as the games industry faces a period of economic challenge, particularly affecting small and independent studios. DigiBC remains committed to advocating for further investment opportunities to support local innovation and ensure long-term industry growth and are encouraged by the province’s continued investment to this end.
