Creative Industries Week 2025: Celebrating a Decade of B.C. Innovation and Talent

It’s that time of year again – when we roll out the red carpet for the many artists, innovators and trailblazers who power British Columbia’s creative industries.

From April 14–18, Creative Industries Week (CIW) returns, marking its 10th year of celebrating the astonishing talent that shapes our local creative sectors; in everything from music & sound recording, books & magazine publishing to film & television and, of course, creative technology. Within the weeklong CIW event, our industry also marks Creative Technology Day on April 16, spotlighting the spectacular work happening across British Columbia’s animation, video game, visual effects (VFX)  and extended reality (XR) sectors.

These industries bring stories to life, entertain millions and push the boundaries of technology and imagination. But just as important: they’re creating high-quality jobs, attracting international investment and helping to cement B.C.’s reputation as a global creative leader.

“We’d like to thank the Province of B.C. for their support of the Creative Technology sector through the IDMTC, Film & TV tax credits, and partnership on education and skills development that help make B.C. a world-class location,” says DigiBC Executive Director Loc Dao.

To deliver on that commitment, DigiBC works closely with our members and government stakeholders to identify opportunities, remove barriers and ensure our industry continues to thrive. Recently, for instance, this has included hosting Signals, our annual creative tech expo, and advocating for the (successful!) renewal of the Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit (IDMTC).

We’ve also been busy helping to keep the local talent pipeline flowing by collaborating with post-secondary institutions such as Emily Carr, UBC, SFU, BCIT, Capilano University, and the Centre for Digital Media. We’re helping bridge the gaps between academia, industry and young professionals through programs like our Work Placement Pilot Program and DigiConnect mentorship program.

“Creative Technology Day is a celebration of the creators, developers and storytellers who make B.C. a creative tech powerhouse,” says Dao. “Thank you for your imagination, your drive and your commitment to building a future where creativity and technology go hand in hand.”
