Local Organizations to Support During COVID-19

A list of local organizations currently looking for support during the COVID-19 crisis. Thanks for East Side Games for putting this together and sharing it!

Wish Vancouver
info@wishdropincentre.org
604-669-WISH (9474)

Mission: To improve the health, safety and well-being of women who are involved in Vancouver’s street-based sex trade.

What they need right now:

  • Leggings, sweaters, socks, underwear — would prefer Walmart (or similar) gift cards for their staff to purchase these items
  • Laptop computers for their employees to WFH — would prefer either BestBuy gift cards or used computer donations

Crabtree Corner (YWCA Vancouver)
Mission: YWCA Crabtree Corner is a welcoming resource centre in the Downtown Eastside where women and families can find food programs, early childhood literacy and music groups, parenting and intergenerational support, FASD supports and other community building opportunities.

What they need right now:

  • Monetary donations needed to support the residents at Crabtree Corner (donation link above)
  • They are running really low on items such as socks, underwear, and toiletries. Crabtree is open Monday to Friday from 8:30am – 3pm and welcoming donations of food and new items. Donations can be made at 533 East Hastings Street.

Greater Vancouver Food Bank
What they need right now:

  • For every $1 you donate, the Greater Vancouver Food Bank can purchase $3 worth of nutritious, wholesome food thanks to our relationships with BC farmers and wholesalers. Monetary donations can be made here: https://foodbank.bc.ca/blog/donations/donate-now/

BC SPCA
What they need right now:

  • The BC SPCA has been declared an essential service, which means they can continue to report for work to care for the animals in their shelters. Monetary donations can be made here: https://spca.bc.ca/donations/emergency-alert/

RESTAURANTS/ INITIATIVES SUPPORTING FRONTLINE WORKERS

  • Feed The Front Line – The mission of this initiative is to support healthcare workers as well as the local restaurants who are making and delivering this food to them. For every $50 donated, Feed the Frontline produces ten meals. Click here to donate.
  • Breaking Bread Now – Comprehensive list of restaurants in the Lower Mainland
  • Lee’s Donuts – Providing donuts to essential workers throughout the Lower Mainland
  • Pizza Carano – Giving away free pizzas to frontline workers. Offset the cost of these pizzas by making a donation to the restaurant.
  • Fable Diner – Offering discounted meals for emergency personnel and health care workers. They will take 40% off all take-out orders; to receive the discount you must be in uniform or show an ID badge or pay stub when you pick up and pay.
